Château d'If Tours, Boats & Tickets

Boats to the fortress, Frioul swim cruises, sunset sails, the Calanques and the best of Marseille — chosen, sorted and ready to book.

You can visit the Château d'If entirely on your own — take the public shuttle from the Vieux-Port and buy an entry ticket. But many visitors prefer to book: a boat trip with entry included saves queuing twice, a Frioul cruise adds a swim in clear water, and a sunset sail past the fortress is one of the loveliest evenings Marseille has to offer.

Below are the experiences we recommend, chosen from the hundreds on sale in Marseille and grouped by what you want to do. All are live GetYourGuide products. Prices are indicative “from” prices in euros at the time of writing; ratings and review counts are GetYourGuide's.

Read the small print: many cruises sail around the Château d'If without landing. If you want to go inside the fortress, choose a product that says entry is included, or buy the entry ticket and take the shuttle. And whatever you book, crossings depend on the wind — most tours can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours ahead.

Booking Château d'If tours: FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Do all boat tours stop at the Château d'If?

No. Many cruises pass close to the island but do not land. If you want to go inside, choose a product that clearly includes castle entry, or take the public shuttle and buy an entry ticket.

What happens if my boat is cancelled because of the wind?

Operators cancel when it is unsafe to sail or land, and normally offer a refund or another date. Check the cancellation terms on each listing before you book.

Are these tours refundable?

Most GetYourGuide activities offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. The exact policy is shown on each listing.

Which is better: a Frioul cruise or a Calanques cruise?

Frioul cruises are shorter, cheaper and pass the Château d’If; Calanques cruises go further along the spectacular coast towards Cassis. With two days, do both.

Can I swim on these boat trips?

Most summer cruises include a swim stop and many provide snorkelling gear. Swim stops depend on the weather.

Are boat trips suitable for children?

Generally yes; check minimum ages on each listing. Shorter trips with a swim stop are best for younger children.
